How to Set a Leader Timeout

The Leader Timeout watches how long the person at the top of the queue (the leader) has held the leading spot. Once they have been the leader for longer than the time you set, Queue takes an action so the leading spot is not held indefinitely and the next person in line gets their turn.

Access Queue Configuration anytime by typing this command in the message box /queue config or by clicking the ellipses icon in the pinned queue message and selecting configure.

To set a Leader Timeout

  1. Open the Queue Configuration dialog with /queue config
  2. Under Advanced Options, find the Leader Timeout setting
  3. Enter the amount of time the leader can stay at the top of the queue before the timeout triggers
  4. Choose the action Queue should take when the timeout is reached (see below)
  5. Click save

Timeout actions

When the leader's time runs out, Queue can take one of the following actions, depending on how you configure it:

  • Notify — send a reminder to the leader that their time at the top is up, while leaving them in their place in the queue. Use this when you want a nudge rather than automatic movement.
  • Notify & Kick — notify the leader and then remove them from the queue, so the next person becomes the new leader.
  • Notify & Move to the end — notify the leader and then move them to the back of the queue, so the next person becomes the new leader while the previous leader keeps their place in line.

Setting the timeout to empty or zero disables it, so the leader stays at the top until they leave manually.

Leader Timeout is a Premium feature.
